The Daily Dawn,
The whole world is making progress but we are lagging behind. The faults lie win Our System of education. The disciplines taught to our students fall considerably shuff of the international standard. The more painful aspect of this system is the old, discard and worthless method of evaluation. The developed countries have adopted the modern methods of judging the abilities of their students but we follow the traditional techniques. Our system of examination needs a complete overhauling.
Examination means the testing of the proficiency or knowledge of students for a qualification. For example, the qualification is getting the Secondary School Certificate. For this certificate, the knowledge of a student will be judged by a set procedure. If he is declared passed, he will be given the certificate, otherwise not.
Our examination system is the worst of its type. It clearly gives the impression that our authorities are least concerned about it. The system that was in practice a century ago is still in practice at present. It reflects the faults of our system of education on the whole. Unfortunately, education has always been our government's last preference. Because of our ill-planned system of examination, we are spoiling thousands of young men every year.
Contrary to it, if we read the life history of great men like Churchill, we come to know the defects of our system. Churchill got admission at Harrow in spite of the fact that he could not write a single word in one of his answer sheets. Didn't that blank sheet show that he had no talent at all? But in his practical life, he proved an asset to the nation. He was such a remarkable leader that he saved England, America and Russia from total destruction in the World War-Il.
ls there anything in our examination system that may judge the hidden qualities in a talented boy? The answer is big "NO." is there any good of the present system? The answer is that we have never thought of it seriously because for us education is the least
